Double Features & Continuous Showings

Every generation extolls the lost virtues of their youth. The good old days! Actually, not so much truth in that. I for one would not trade today for yesterday.

However, that said, there's one aspect of life I would heartily bring back, and it shouldn't be all that difficult.

Let's bring back Double Features in movie theaters! After their run in cinemas (length based on box office), films today might have a second-run in smaller towns & cities, but most go to VOD and streaming fairly quickly.

I propose that double features might be one way to recoup some dollars by creatively matching films in a way to attract audiences that might have missed the original runs for one reason or another. Naturally, three-hour epics need not apply. (Sorry, Christopher Nolan)

Films could be partnered by genre, actor, source material, and a hundred other ways, theater owners get another revenue opportunity, films that failed initially might be discovered, and today's audiences could be lured into watching yesterday's classics.

Think of it as a BOGO (everyone loves that)!

Double features were a blast and could be again.

You might also note the continuous showing language in the ads on this page. That meant that the theaters were not emptied after a screening, they just started the film(s) again and you didn't have to leave. You watch the film again and there was no extra charge!

My friends and I watched Goldfinger three times. I wonder why we were so captivated? (We were 14 yrs. old)
